MARKET FESTIVAL DAYS
All summer long, the West Side Saturday Farmers Market, a project of Growing West Side, offers fresh local food and a chance to chat with neighbors, listen to music, and enjoy locally crafted, tasty treats from fresh brewed coffee, to pastries, to breakfast burritos.
This summer, 201, six special Market Festival Days will attract and reflect the vibrant diversity that is the West Side. From opening day (June 3) to the Harvest Festival in October and every 3rd Saturday in between, the West Side Farmer’s Market will be a festival! Located at the Icy Cup at the corner of George Street West and Stryker Avenue, each Market Festival Day will celebrate a special aspect of the Neighborhood and the Market. There will be entertainment (music, dance, live art projects), food demos, food sampling, children’s activities, community resources, and a special contest or game. Growing West Side, will also be on hand offering information and resources on growing food and gardening.
OPENING DAY – JUNE 4.
WALK AND ROLL TO THE MARKET DAY – June 17 .
Celebrate walking, biking, wheeling, running, busing, and carpooling to the market.
MARKET PLAY DATE – JULY 15.
Celebrates children, youth, and families with games, music, and fun entertainment for kids, as well as resources for families, from recipes to health to family activities.
Salsa y Salsa Day – August 19
Tomato and Salsa tasting Contest.
BEST SIDE DAY – September 16.
A festival to celebrate the diverse, ethnic cultures, foods, music, art, and dance that make the West Side, the Best Side. Expect food tastings and recipes.
GROWING WEST SIDE HARVEST FESTIVAL – OCTOBER 14.
Once again, the Market will expand out into Stryker Avenue! Food venders will be offering the bounty of harvest—corn, squash, gourds, pumpkin, fruit and more, and more! In addition, marketers will enjoy music, community art projects, seasonal recipes. Growing West Side booth will provide fall gardening tips and information on food preservation and storage.
Approximately 400+ market goers are expected to visit on each Market Festival Day.
